After completing his education, Michael embarked on a commendable 31-year career as a high school English teacher, 30 of which were spent in Ohio. His dedication to teaching and his ability to inspire his students left a lasting impact on many lives. In 2013, he retired from teaching but did not slow down. Recognizing a new avenue where he could make a difference, Michael started a Parent Coaching business in 2017, leveraging his extensive experience in education and sports coaching. By becoming certified as a Leadership Parenting Coach, he founded Parenting OutSmarted, a venture dedicated to guiding parents through the challenges of raising children in today’s complex world.
Michael’s contributions to basketball as a player and a coach are noteworthy. He has a distinguished coaching career spanning 25 years, including 18 years as a head coach. His exceptional leadership and coaching skills were recognized in 2003 when he was named Basketball Coach of the Year in Ohio, among other local Coach of the Year awards throughout his career. Michael has also received league and district honors as a baseball and basketball player in high school and college.

With a 16-year career that includes leading her college in scoring in 2007, being named Best Guard in Sweden in 2014, and training many of the current Australian women’s Olympic basketball team members, her accomplishments are a testament to the sporting legacy of the Smart family.
